As a participant in this forum, you must:

  • show respect for personal privacy. Do not post personal information about any other individual on the forum without the permission of that individual;
  • comply with New Zealand law when posting information (for example privacy, copyright or confidentiality laws);
  • comply with your own agencies' rules and codes of conduct;

  • respect any conditions that other participants put on use and attribution of information posted on the forum.

You must not:

  • use the forum for commercial purposes, for instance to sell or advertise products or services. The only exception is that privacy officer groups and this Office may advertise privacy-related events such as conferences, meetings or workshops;
  • share your forum password or allow others to post to the forum under your identity.

Take-down policy

If a participant breaches any of these terms and conditions, please notify us immediately. We will take down any material that breaches the terms and conditions and suspend the registration of the participant. We will discuss the matter with the participant and their agency. Reinstatement of registration is entirely at our discretion.

We may also take down material and suspend or cancel registration at our discretion at any time.

Our liability

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner's liability is limited to the material that its staff post on the forum. It does not accept any liability for information posted by participants other than our staff. In particular, we do not accept any liability for the uses of information posted by others, and we do not guarantee that information posted by participants is correct.

Forum privacy statement

We collect the personal information that you provide on your profile for the purposes of managing your registration, answering your queries, improving services and providing assistance. Our administrators can see all the information on your profile (whether it is available to other participants or not) except for your password.

We do not know your password, apart from the initial logon password that we provide when you first register. You can edit your profile and change your password at any time. If you forget your password, please use the automated tool provided to reset it.

From time to time, we may anonymise and aggregate the information in posts for educational and reporting purposes and to improve services. For instance, if there is concern about a particular topic, we may refer to the fact that "forum participants raised this as a concern". We will also need to report in general terms on the success of the forum. However, we will not attribute any information to particular participants or their agencies without express permission.

If you wish to see any of the personal information that we hold about you, or wish to correct your personal information, please just contact us.
