Welcome to our fortnightly digest, Privacy News.
Ask us about privacy
There’s now a new way to answer your privacy questions. Last week we launched Ask Us, an online knowledge base, to help you find out what you want to know about your privacy rights and obligations. Ask Us, which can be found here, allows people to access reliable privacy guidance at any time. It’s similar to using a search engine, but this one is designed to answer questions you may have about information privacy and the Privacy Act.
Privacy Commissioner in Southland
Privacy Commissioner John Edwards last week visited Invercargill to promote the Office’s work and to talk to people about their privacy concerns. He spoke at a public forum organised by the Southland Community Law Centre and met with a range of local agencies including SIT and Southland DHB. The Commissioner also gave a presentation to the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Queenstown on reporting surgical outcomes data. You can read coverage of his latest regional visit in the Southland Times.
Internet NZ’s Easy Transparency project
Privacy Commissioner John Edwards has welcomed Internet NZ’s new transparency reporting project. “It is excellent to see Internet NZ taking the lead here. The Easy Transparency tools mean that the first step to transparency reporting is even simpler," Mr Edwards said.
Easy Transparency is a set of templates and tools to help New Zealand organisations start doing yearly transparency reporting.
