Advisory opinions are intended to promote understanding of the Privacy Act’s IPPs and give greater certainty to Ministers and agencies about how the Act operates in certain circumstances. The process is especially for where there is dispute over the correct approach to interpreting the Privacy Act.

Opinions will usually be published on the OPC website and the relevant agencies named. Read the Policy on Advisory Opinions
