What can I do if I'm unhappy with information a media organisation has reported about me?

The Privacy Act doesn’t apply to the actions of the news media in respect of their news gathering and news reporting functions, so we won’t be able to assist you.

In the first instance, we would suggest you get in touch with the news organisation in question and see if you can resolve your concerns directly. However, if that doesn’t work, there are other bodies which can investigate the actions of news media agencies.

If you are complaining about newspaper reporting, contact the New Zealand Media Council(external link); for complaints about television or radio broadcasting, contact the Broadcasting Standards Authority(external link).
