Jon Duffy leaves OPC to head Consumer NZ John Edwards

I am very sad to announce the resignation of my Assistant Commissioner, Jon Duffy.

The sadness is mostly one-sided. Jon is thrilled to have been appointed to his dream job, and Consumer NZ is excited, and pleased with its good fortune, to have Jon as its Chief Executive Officer.

In his time with us Jon has demonstrated across his wide portfolio of duties, just why he has been so sought after as a replacement for Sue Chetwin. His easy going, affable manner immediately won the trust and confidence of staff and inspired their loyalty. A much-valued member of our Senior Leadership Team, his unique mix of strategic vision and practical attention to business as usual has ensured we have enjoyed stability, all the while preparing for the most significant changes the Office of the Privacy Commissioner has seen for 26 years.

We wish him well. But the work that Jon has been helping us with is not yet done. I need a motivated, well organised and caring Assistant Commissioner to help me and my team implement the Privacy Act 2020, refine our business processes so that we are an effective privacy and data protection regulator, and support staff and colleagues to ensure that through all that change, we continue to deliver an excellent and compassionate service to all New Zealanders.

If that sounds like you, please keep an eye on our website for details of our recruitment process. You might be a senior public servant with high level policy or operational management experience, you could be a partner in a law firm looking for a change, or you might have experience helping organisations through periods of change and keen to embrace an exciting opportunity in one of the defining fields of our age.
