I am very pleased to announce that former Chief Executive of Statistics NZ and Government Statistician Liz MacPherson will be joining the Office for one year in the role of Assistant Commissioner.
2020 is going to be a critical year for us as we implement a new Privacy Act, and make the organisational and process changes necessary to be an effective modern regulator. I can’t think of anyone better suited to help us make the transition to a new operating model, while continuing to maintain our high level of service to citizens, industry, and Government.
Liz has had a distinguished career of public service and has held a number of Deputy Chief Executive roles before being appointed to the position of Government Statistician, a position she retained until late last year.
In addition to her wide and extensive management and policy experience, Liz knows our business, and we have worked together on a number of projects over the years. As Government Statistician Liz knew the value and importance of privacy, and its role in maintaining trust.
Liz will take over from Jon Duffy who leaves to take up the post of Chief Executive Consumer NZ in April.
