NotifyUs tool

NotifyUs is our online tool that can help you work out if a breach is notifiable and to report it to us. Under the new Act, if your organisation has a privacy breach that is likely to cause anyone serious harm, it is legally required to notify us and any affected persons as soon as practicable.

New e-learning modules

We have two new e-learning modules on the Privacy Act 2020. 

Privacy Act 2020: Our Privacy Act 2020 module gives an overview of the key changes in the Privacy Act 2020 and why the law was revised.

Privacy breach reporting: Learn about the requirement to report serious privacy breaches, which came into force on 1 December 2020.

Both of these modules take approximately 30 minutes and can be completed in more than one session.

Principle 12 guidance

Principle 12 sets rules around sending information outside New Zealand.

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner has produced step-by-step guidance to help organisations and businesses understand their principle 12 obligations and model contract clauses to facilitate cross-border disclosure of personal information.
