Office of the Privacy Commissioner | Privacy Creatures for Privacy Week
What does a privacy creature look like? The Office of the Privacy Commissioner set exactly that challenge for artists at five community art workshops around the country – in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.
The resulting art works are a collection of strange and normal creatures with one characteristic in common – they are all the imaginings seeking to define or illustrate concepts of privacy.
The Privacy Creature project was developed as part of Privacy Week, which the Office of the Privacy Commissioner marks each year to promote privacy awareness and to inform people of their rights under the Privacy Act. This year, Privacy Week is from 9 to 14 May.
The five community art workshops that contributed to the project are Vincents Art Workshop in Wellington, Ōtautahi Creative Spaces in Christchurch, Toi Ora Live Art Trust in Auckland, Sandz Studio and Gallery in Hamilton and Artsenta in Dunedin.
The artworks can be seen on the Office of the Privacy Commissioner’s website and also on the office’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages.
Many of the artworks will also be auctioned on Trade Me as a featured charity auction to raise funds for each of the community art workshops that contributed to our privacy art project.
The Privacy Creatures art works can be viewed here. There is also more information about Privacy Week on the Office of the Privacy Commissioner’s website at www.privacy.org.nz.
