The Office of the Privacy Commissioner is involved in three strands of inquiry relating to the ACC privacy incidents that came to light in March 2012.

The Privacy Commissioner and the ACC Board commissioned an independent inquiry that is looking into the initial incident, and systemic issues regarding the way ACC handles personal information.

The inquiry is being led by KPMG and Malcolm Crompton, former Australian Federal Privacy Commissioner, with a reporting date of 23 August 2012.

Concurrently, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner is conducting a separate investigation into a complaint about the disclosure to the media of information about Bronwyn Pullar and Michelle Boag. This is a confidential complaints process with no particular end date set. The outcome will be conveyed to the parties.

The Office is also currently dealing with more than 100 complaints from people affected by the ACC privacy breach. These complaints are being dealt with individually under the usual complaints processes, with no set end point. The details of all complaints are confidential.
