The agency hasn’t kept my information.
The Privacy Act says that agencies must not collect personal information unless the collection is necessary for the agency to carry out its business. Agencies are also not allowed to keep personal information if they no longer have a use for it and if there’s no law requiring them to keep it. This means that agencies often won’t hold as much information as you might think they would or should.
If you think there is additional information about you which the agency should have, this is something you may want to discuss with the agency directly. Check whether the agency had the information but it has been deleted or destroyed, or whether the agency never had the information in the first place.
You may also want to consider whether there is another agency you could ask for this information.
