How long do I have to make a complaint to the Privacy Commissioner?

You should try and make your complaint to us within 12 months of it happening.

We may decline to investigate a matter where the affected individual (you) knew about it for more than 12 months before making a complaint to us. This is to stop situations where the incident happened so long ago that it wouldn’t be practical to investigate a complaint about it now.

If there are circumstances that explain the delay, you can explain these to us, and we may decide to investigate.
